According to Dianna Pilkington, sleeping with the TV turned on could lead to depression. She refers to Dr. Guy Meadows, who explains that the light from the screen of your TV or monitor is bad for your health.
“The human is meant to sleep in dark. When the sun comes up and the light appears, our light receptors in the retina tell us that it is time for waking up by disabling the secretion of melatonin-the hormone that makes us fall asleep”, says Dr. Guy Meadows.
So, when you are sleeping with your TV turned on, you are unable to achieve deep sleep because the light from the screen disturbs the system of functioning in the organism. This results with sleeplessness and bad mood and nervousness during the day.
A neurological research proved that the sleeping on dimmed light, opposed to total darkness, changes the mood in long term and raises the risk of depression.
In case you are unable to get rid of this habit, then the best thing you can do is to choose the option “sleep” on your TV, where you can adjust your TV to turn off automatically after some time. When it comes to the computers, there are many ways to adjust them to turn off automatically.
