Even though we change the sheets and pillowcases on a regular basis, we often neglect the pillows. According to the experts, people clean the pillows three times a year.
Springtime is usually the time when we wash the pillows, during the spring-cleaning. Ask yourself when is the last time you washed your pillows? If you can`t remember, this is alarming and you should definitely do something about it, as changing the pillowcases is simply not enough. According to the head of the Sleep to Live Institute, you should change the pillows regularly and wash the pillows as least two times a year.
If the pillows can be washed in your washing machine, put two of them at once, as this protects them from damage, given the fact that the drum can reach high speed.
Have you noticed that the pillows turn yellow after a certain period of time? Many people fail to notice this discoloration as we use clean pillowcases. However, it is important to do something about this! In fact, all you have to do is to put the pillows in your washing machine, add a cup of bleaching power, a washing powder, two or three tablespoons of baking soda and hot water.
Make sure you check the label on the pillows before washing them in order to see which temperature will work best. When done, hit the pillow from each side in order to squeeze the excess moisture and accelerate the drying process. Leave the pillow outside to dry and don’t use it until completely dried!
