In absolute terms, air conditioning remains the most common and popular option to quickly cool a room. However, not all homes are equipped with a central air conditioning system. Not to mention that, even those who have it, are always looking for clever alternatives to avoid turning it on continuously. Fortunately, there are many methods to cool a room without systematically soliciting the air conditioner.
Cool the room with a bottle of water
Since air conditioning is very energy-intensive and may significantly increase your monthly bill, many of you will be seduced by the trick of the water bottle. If you want to avoid health problems and save money, this solution will greatly relieve you.
The process is very simple: just fill a bottle with tap water, then put it in the freezer for a few hours. Once the water is completely freezing, take out the bottle and place it at the foot of your bed. It will refresh the ambient air you breathe and help you fall asleep faster. Obviously, this is only a short-term solution. This method can be developed even more optimally with the help of a fan. We give you the details in the next paragraph.
N.B : To spend more serene nights, experts recommend using the refrigerator to cool the bedding before going to bed. They advise putting the pillowcase and sheet in the fridge for a while before putting them in bed. The cooling effect is instantaneous!
Some interesting variants to cool a room with water
If you do not have air conditioning at home, you can use this method to cool the room. On the other hand, to apply it, it is necessary to have an ordinary fan. The trick is simple: dip a cloth or a small towel in cold or even icy water. Ideally, fill a bowl with water and put ice cubes in it. Wring out the towel so that it is a little damp, then place it on the fan. Replace it frequently as it dries. While you’re at it, to freshen the room even more, hang soaked sheets in front of a window. The drafts will be much cooler and a pleasant breeze will enter the room!
Let’s go back to the famous trick of the frozen water bottle. This time, instead of simply placing it at the foot of the bed, you can install it in front of the fan. Thus, during its rotation, it will refresh the room much faster. It is a perfect option for bedrooms, especially before sleeping. Once the temperature has cooled down in the room, you can turn off the fan and then place the bottle on the windowsill, to preserve coolness longer.
Some tips to keep your home cooler and to better cope with the heat
- In summer, it is always better to have light colors on the walls, because they retain less heat, which will maintain pleasant temperatures in the rooms in particular.
- It is also advisable to lower the shutters and close the curtains or blinds during the day to avoid massive intrusion of the sun’s rays and thus keep the rooms cooler.
- For those who do not know, green plants not only purify the ambient air, but they also have the ability to refresh rooms. You will only have to mist their leaves or pass a damp cloth to quickly feel the difference!
- Beware of incandescent bulbs that are not at all energy efficient. Instead, choose light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, which can also help cool your home while reducing your energy costs. Obviously, when you do not need it, turn off all lamps or lighting at the ceiling.
- Due to the summer heat wave, it is difficult to maintain an adequate body temperature in order to sleep better at night. Also, to face the hottest days, it is important to regulate your body temperature by wearing, for example, lighter fabrics or choosing cooler materials for sheets. Cotton, silk, linen and satin are the most suitable for controlling body heat and promoting restful sleep.
