What can I put in the glove compartment?
Previously, the glove box was the only place in the entire car that allowed items to be stored (except for the trunk). Basically, its role is to filter the air that enters the passenger compartment of the car. It was not perceived as a drawer, but as a compartment, and some cars were not even equipped with it. Gradually, it began to be considered as a drawer: a small lock was even applied. This is how the custom of integrating important objects inside, safe from thieves, was born.
However, in recent years, storage and storage spaces have multiplied, they are truly found in every corner of the car. Nowadays, cars can offer up to 40 compartments or more to store various types of items. For its part, the glove box has also evolved. It is now more spacious, with more compartments, an internal light… Of course, it is useful to put essential documents such as insurance, registration or maintenance booklet. It should also include a first aid kit, for rapid assistance, at any time and in any situation. Finally, you can also slip the tire repair kit that is used to repair a possible puncture. If a wheel is suddenly punctured, just ask a passerby for help. This allows you to avoid calling troubleshooting and therefore save a lot of money.
But that’s not all, the new glove boxes still have a hidden function that can be very useful for many motorists.
The glove box: a refrigerator in the car
When buying a new car, many people fail to consult the owner’s manual. And this is a mistake, because it contains important instructions on the procedure for use. If you were paying attention, you will know that your glove box is also refrigerated. At least, most new models offer this feature.
In fact, this system relies on air conditioning: when you start the car, and you start driving, the air ends up directly inside the glove compartment. This function can be very useful to keep cool certain foods that thaw quickly, especially when it is hot (ice cream, iced cakes or chocolates), but also to keep drinks or medicines cool. A very sensible function when temperatures are particularly hot and during long journeys. Obviously, those who do not have access to this option in their car can always fall back on the good old insulated bag. Note that some cars have this refrigeration in the trunk.
How do you know if your glove box can be used as a fridge? Check if there is some kind of switch that looks like a button or a dial (depending on the model of your vehicle), because it is through this switch that cold air from the air conditioner circulates through the duct and arrives in the glove compartment.
N.B : Some also have a USB socket, and this can be used to charge power banks, flashlights or battery starters.
