Three smart students from London’s Isaac Newton Academy have been trying to create a cleaner sexual environment by inventing a new smart condom which will change its color to expose STDs. Chirag Shah, Daanyaal Ali and Muaz Nawaz are the 3 brave students that have invented what they’re now calling the “S.T.EYE”.20minutenews.com Reports:
“We wanted to make something that makes detecting harmful STI’s (sexually transmitted infections) safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors,” Ali told The Independent. The condoms glow in different colors in the dark when they detect an STD. According to reports, there’s a built-in indicator that changes its color when it comes in contact with bacteria or an infection. Chlamydia makes the condom green, herpes makes it yellow, HPV makes the condom glow purple, while syphilis turns it blue. This invention brought its creators the teens top innovation prize at the Teen Tech Awards – they’ve won a fairly nice sum as well as a trip to the Buckingham’s palace.
The condom is currently unavailable to the public as it is just a concept, but Ali, Shah and Nawaz are hoping that it can be released in the near future. According to the CDC, condoms are the best way of preventing STDs, but abstinence, reducing the number of sex partners, monogamy and vaccinations are effective as well.
