Everyone knows these expressions that say that the body suffers the consequences of a negative and disturbed inner state: fear can make us feel a lump in our stomach, sadness sometimes tightens our throat, anger increases our tension, discontent and worries can impact our liver or spleen… These inner feelings that we all know at one time or another tell us that well-being is not only the good results of a blood test, it is not only the absence of symptoms or disease. No, true vitality is to be sought in a state of balance between the different aspects of ourselves. This is a first secret of happiness: to be aware that I can only be comfortable in my own skin if I am also good in my inner feelings, my thoughts, my way of seeing life, my way of entering into relationships in a more or less harmonious way with others, whether they are my loved ones or people more distant. Have you ever heard of the holistic approach to human beings? One could say that it means taking into account all the dimensions that make up the human being, and not only his physical state. The holistic approach is well aware of this key to well-being, which consists in taking into account everything that lives inside us. In summary, you could say that this is the first secret to a happy and healthy life.
A secret to balance: regular practice
And there is a second secret, which could be summed up by this proverb: “prevention is better than cure”! This may still seem obvious and based on simple common sense, but as we know, it is precisely because things are apparently too simple that they are neglected to be implemented. And so it is with these daily practices, these wellness routines that cost almost nothing… but that we don’t apply! We can then ask: but why deprive ourselves of a source of real benefits? Let’s take meditation as an example. There are countless scientific studies and reports that demonstrate the psychological, relational, and even physical benefits of the regular practice of meditation. And yet, even if we have already been able to taste the well-being that these moments of return to oneself in calm and silence provide, how many of the “meditators” sometimes spend several weeks without practicing? And in these cases, we always have good excuses, valid excuses, to put aside this practice that only requires twenty minutes a day! Often, it is because of stressful situations, or unexpected changes in one’s life that we put aside these favorable habits, when it is precisely in these moments that they would be of the greatest help to allow us to take a step back and live with these difficulties with more distance.
But sometimes, the opposite also happens: it’s precisely because everything is going well in our life that we don’t see the point of sitting down and meditating, or doing our yoga or relaxation session… When it is precisely the best time to strengthen ourselves and prepare ourselves to face the periods when we find ourselves weakened. Athletes know it well: regular training prepares the body for major events such as marathons, summit climbing or any other challenge.
The key to success: fun!
And when we talk about athletes, we come to this other great secret of success on a daily basis: pleasure! Maybe you are one of those people who loves to run? If not, you have probably already heard a runner talk about this very particular state that he feels after a few minutes of running: a state of pleasure, of well-being that can go as far as euphoria sometimes and which explains why it is not at all restrictive for him to repeat the experience every day, sometimes even in the middle of a heat wave during the lunch break while we watch it, amazed, from our office, where the air conditioning seems to us the supreme source of pleasure at that moment! If we transpose this feeling of intense well-being to our daily practice of meditation or any other method, then it can become very easy to get started every day with enthusiasm and enthusiasm! And now, if you are one of those who have not yet found “their method”, of those who are still looking for a daily “discipline”, a beneficial routine that meets these criteria of taking into account the totality of their being, within the framework of a non-restrictive and even pleasant daily training. So I can give you my opinion on a method that enchanted me as soon as I met it: the Samadeva…
Daily routines that work: the opinion of the Samadeva
Samadeva is a set of methods from ancestral traditions, passed down for millennia from master to student. Idris Lahore has mediated this teaching of wisdom and well-being in the West, adapting these traditional approaches to the men and women of today. Nowadays, many specialists from the Free University of Samadeva transmit these methods to harmonize the body, emotions, thoughts, energetic disturbances or systemic or even spiritual difficulties. And in all these methods, exercises are proposed to take charge of one’s own well-being, as evidenced by the opinion of those who have experienced the Samadeva. In particular, several techniques make it possible to respond to these three keys to well-being: the global approach to the human being, regular practice and pleasure…
I could talk to you, for example, about the euphonious minute of health, a succession of several movements that softens all the joints and brings great vitality in a very short time, or about daily energy hygiene, a set of exercises that allow us to enter our day with more strength and balance. And there’s yet another daily routine that can become a real ally: the major Arkanas. And the term “routine” seems a little too ordinary, because there is a whole symbolism hidden in these movements that, originally, were considered sacred. It is a sequence of about ten minutes, which we learn to perform as part of the Samara Yoga, one of the nine branches of the Samadeva. Each of the exercises, called “Arkana” acts on a system of the body, very gently, and thus, from the first movement (“the gushing fountain”) which regulates all the energy centers, to the last (“the dance of the planets”), we can feel that our whole body is revitalized, that our emotions are harmonized, that our inner state is more peaceful, light…
To go a little further…
And then, beyond the daily ten-minute practice, another approach is interesting, which is to treat yourself to a themed weekend, to discover new methods, live new experiences and perhaps find the rare pearl that will positively transform your daily life! Thus, the seven major Arkana of Samara Yoga are a little gem in themselves. But participating in a whole day of Samara Yoga is the opportunity to discover other exercises and movements that complement them and give them their full value. So, when you resume your daily practice, it is as if you are moving on to another level of practice, enriched by the deepening you experienced during the workshop, with the consequence that it is much easier to implement the routine you have decided. And so, it is not limited to a slightly technical gymnastics, but becomes like a treasure that you refine a little more every day, like a passionate craftsman who is constantly working on his art and becomes himself ever more attentive, present, gifted, precise, enchanted by this magic of the gesture repeated with care… This is why we take more and more pleasure in the well-being and health practices that we integrate into our lives, that they become an appointment that we would not want to miss for anything in the world, because of the benefits they bring us.
