Uber has simplified our daily lives!
Some people can no longer do without it. And for good reason: Uber has revolutionized the landscape of the transportation industry. You can have a driver in a few minutes via your Smartphone. It doesn’t matter what time it is or where you are. Everything is done to simplify your life. Payment is automatic and you can move around your city at the touch of a button, literally. The interface of the app is very simple to use, vehicles are often available in almost every corner of the city and affordable prices. In other words, millions of people around the world benefit from this luxury service.
But for some time, Uber has been facing a heavy controversy: there are various complaints against some drivers, both in the United States and Europe. Reports of misconduct, harassment and sexual assault tarnish the image of the platform. Against the backdrop of scandal, it is clear that there is a flaw in the system and that the company should be much more vigilant when hiring its employees.
Also, as a safety measure, it would be good to take certain precautions. Whether you’re taking your first ride with Uber or used to doing so, we’ve put together some tips to help keep you safer on your commute.
N.b : Be aware that you always have access to essential information, such as the driver’s contact details and the car’s registration number. You can also see where you are in real time and send your ride details to your loved ones (who want to know if you’ve arrived) or the person waiting for you at your destination.
What to do when the driver arrives?
In addition to sharing your real-time location with a family member or friend when you get in Uber’s car, there are other actions you can take to make this taxi service safer and more comfortable. In particular, they aim to point out to the driver that you do not take things lightly and that you want to prevent any possible unfortunate incident. Remember that vigilance must always be required.
First big tip: check the car model, license plate and driver’s photo on the app, even before getting in. Ask the driver to confirm all this data. It goes without saying that if you have the slightest doubt or if you notice something suspicious, you should immediately refuse to go up.
Why take a picture of the car before getting in?
Then we advise you to take a picture of the vehicle with the license plates and the driver. Send them directly to your contacts. This is the best way to protect and reassure you in case something goes wrong. If the driver seems annoyed and holds you accountable, don’t hesitate to tell him: ” Excuse me for taking a picture of you, but my husband (my father or brother) specifically asked me« .
And that’s not all. When you open the door, before getting into the car, roll down the window. Once inside, check that the vehicle is not equipped with the child restraint system. If so, you can remove it yourself simply by reaching out the window. Also, in the worst case, if you have to break the window for your own safety, you can use the headrest to save yourself.
N.b : To avoid any discomfort, it is always best to sit directly behind the driver.
