Fungal infections can affect any body part, according to the medical experts. Fungi are naturally occurring in the body along with various types of bacteria. When fungi overpopulate and overgrow, the person gets an infection.
For instance, onychomycosis, also referred to as tinea unguium, is a type of fungal infections which affects the toenails or fingernails. It is important to look for any changes on your nails regularly as fungal infections develop gradually.
As mentioned above, fungal infections occur as a result of overgrowth of fungi in, on or under the nail. Given the fact that fungi thrive in moist environment, such environment helps them overpopulate and overgrow. The same type of fungi are the culprit for ringworm, nail infection, athlete`s foot and jock itch. It is also worth mentioning that if you come into contact with a person who already has a fungal infection; it is very likely that you well get infected as well. Toenails are more prone to fungal infections than the fingernails, as they are exposed to moist environment more frequently.
If you get a manicure or pedicure at a salon, make sure you ask about the disinfection of the tools. For instance, nail clippers, emery boards, and other tools may spread fungal infections if they are not properly disinfected. Both genders may get a fungal infection, which is both aesthetic and health issue.
The good news is that there are various home remedies available, which can help you get rid of the fungal infection naturally. All you have to do is to soak the feet in some of the mixtures below:

You can either soak your feet in yogurt or rub some yogurt onto them. When dried, rinse if off with cold water.
Sodium bicarbonate, commonly referred to as baking soda, is also very effective when it comes to destroying fungal infections.

Hydrogen peroxide also works great against fungal infections. All you have to do is to soak the feet in a solution made of water and hydrogen peroxide. Mix 1liter of distilled water with 100 ml of 3% pharmaceutical grade hydrogen peroxide and soak the feet for about 20 minutes.
This method kills fungi and prevents them from overpopulating and spreading. You need to repeat it every morning until the fungal infection disappears.
Corn starch is highly versatile and it can be added in different mixtures to prevent growth of bacteria and fungi. It works as great absorbent and it is extremely effective in absorbing moisture.
