The scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found a new and simple method for detecting colon cancer with the help of yogurt and urine test. Professor Sangita Bhatti managed to create molecules that are acting as biomarkers in the unveiling of colon cancer. These molecules are consumed together with yoghurt, and if they come in contact with the cancer cells, the enzymes will break them down into small particles and they will be discharged from the body through the urine.
Then you will need to pick up these particles in a small piece of paper.
Before this method was revealed, these molecules were taken by injection. The new method adapted the molecules in yogurt and removed the invasive part.
In the laboratory the tests were conducted on laboratory mice, while the tests showed great results in a clinical test made on human patients too. This method is quite cheap and easy to be made.
The American Association for the Fight against Cancer (ACS) claims that 40% of the people that are facing colon cancer have early diagnosis of the ailment, because of the small number of disposable tests.
